Loving the variety D24s we are getting in Malaysia at the moment. Really soft and creamy, exactly like margarine colour and consistency but ofcourse they taste naturally much sweeter and delicious! They are about $2.50 a kg and a largish one is about 3kg. We have had about 8 each today, i feel like more as im typing this…..the truck is right on our doorstep so it is very very tempting.
Was watching some other tourists try Durian tonight – one was drinking Lemonade inbetween bites and was wondering why she didn’t really like the taste?!? Another couple grabbed a pre-packed tray after watching us enthusiastically down numerous fleshy pods. The girl was rather keen and offered some to her boyfriend, he bit down and then drew back and very quickly plugged his cigarette back in his mouth?! Cigarettes taste better than Durian? Doooon’t think so! But I can see why these people are put off when their tastebuds and sensors are so desensitized by unnatural overpowering tastes and stimulants. Ah well more for us!!
Heading off to Phang tomorrow where all the Durian comes from to find the freshest of the fresh & with any luck collect a bunch from beneath the tree ourselves.
Ciao for now
